Plane Crash Leaves Three Dead in U.S. State of Colorado

(MENAFN) A fatal aircraft accident in Colorado claimed at least three lives early Friday, federal authorities confirmed, as investigators launched a probe into the overnight tragedy near a popular mountain resort area.

The Federal Aviation Administration issued a preliminary report documenting the deadly crash that occurred in Steamboat Springs, while the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board announced via X that it has opened an investigation into the incident involving an Epic Aircraft E1000—a single-engine, six-seat turboprop designed for light aviation.

The aircraft plummeted near Emerald Mountain at approximately 12:20 a.m. local time under circumstances that remain unclear, according to local media accounts. Authorities have not yet determined what caused the plane to go down during the pre-dawn hours.

Routt County Sheriff Doug Sherar confirmed that the coroner's office is currently working to establish the identities of the deceased and contact family members.

Federal investigators are expected to examine flight data, weather conditions, and mechanical factors as they work to determine what led to the fatal crash.
