Turkish Airlines Plans to Launch Flights to China's Urumqi
The Istanbul-based carrier will "start operating scheduled flights to Urumqi in the People's Republic of China, subject to availability and market conditions," according to an official statement released on Türkiye's Public Disclosure Platform.
The announcement builds on Turkish Airlines' December 2024 achievement of securing a Guinness World Record for serving the most countries worldwide—an unprecedented 131 nations.
Operating as one of the planet's largest aviation entities, the flag carrier transports over 85 million passengers and handles 2 million tons of cargo annually, cementing its position among industry giants.
CEO Bilal Eksi declared last month that the airline aims to break into the world's top five carriers by 2033, when its fleet is projected to reach 813 aircraft.
As of late January, Turkish Airlines operated 522 aircraft, positioning the company for aggressive growth over the coming decade.
