British F-35B Fighter Jet Departs Southern India

(MENAFN) A British F-35B fighter aircraft that executed an emergency touchdown in southern India last month departed on Tuesday to head back to the UK, as shown in images released by local news outlets.

The aircraft was forced to land unexpectedly at Thiruvananthapuram International Airport in Kerala’s southern region on June 14, citing "technical issues" as the cause.

Since the landing, the jet remained immobilized until a team of British technicians arrived to conduct repairs.

The Indian Air Force stated that the fighter jet was involved in missions conducted by the British aircraft carrier HMS Prince of Wales, which extended "all necessary support for the rectification and subsequent return of the aircraft."

Following this, a British engineering crew traveled to India to restore the grounded fighter jet to operational status for its journey back.

Earlier reports from media sources had suggested that the jet might be partially disassembled and transported back via a military cargo plane.

Video footage shared by Indian media showed the fighter jet taking off from India on Tuesday morning.

The presence of the fighter also encouraged officials in Kerala, a well-known tourist hotspot, to boost tourism promotion efforts within the southern state.
