The airline confirmed that the outage began at about 8 p.m. Pacific Time on Sunday, severely disrupting its operations.
"At approximately 8 p.m. Pacific on Sunday, Alaska Airlines experienced an IT outage that’s impacting our operations."
"We requested a temporary, system-wide ground stop for Alaska and Horizon Air flights until the issue is resolved," a spokesperson for the airline told media in a statement.
The spokesperson expressed regret over the disruption, warning that "residual" operational delays would continue through the night. Travelers were advised to verify flight updates before heading to the airport.
The airline’s website also posted a notice acknowledging ongoing IT system difficulties.
Meanwhile, the FAA’s status dashboard confirmed that the grounding affected all destinations served by Alaska Airlines’ mainline fleet.
